Workshop on Rule of Law & Indian Criminal Justice System
A workshop on “Rule of Law & Indian Criminal Justice System” was conducted at Adani Institute of Infrastructure, Auditorium, on 13th March, 2020, where the main objective of the workshop was to create awareness about government policies, relating to crime prevention, criminal justice and treatment of offenders, including the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders in the society, amongst the students, faculty and other staff members.
The Workshop was initiated with the Welcome Speech, by Dr. Lakshmi P., Professor and Head (PGDM-LAW) programme, by welcoming guests and audience, where she enlightened the present audience regarding importance of Rule of Law and Criminal Justice System in the society.
The Speakers on the topic, out of their vast pool of knowledge and experience, shared some of insights upon the topic, where
Justice R. R. Tripathi, former Judge, High Court of Gujarat & Ex- Member Law Commission of India, explained the concept of Rule of Law in layman terms and how effective a resilient Criminal Justice System is required for the betterment of the society.
Mr. Narasimha Komar, – I.G.P- Law and Order, State of Gujarat, through his presentation enlightened us on “Crime Prevention and Control”, and enhanced upon 4D approach (Deter, Defect, Delay, and Detain), Investigation and arrests, Crime Control V. Due Process to be followed for the prisoners. The highlight of his speech on the topic was that “Every one of us present here is a police-men, me being in uniform and all present others as a civilian (not in uniform).”
Dr. K. L. N. Rao, ADGP, Prisons & Correctional Administration, State of Gujarat, who spoke on topic “Rehabilitation and Reintegration of offenders in Society”, enhanced upon Prison Administration, different variety of life making skills and creativity learnings depending upon their gender and age, where in Prison Department, they help inmates have reintegration and even allow them pursue higher education.
And Mr. Keshav Kumar, Director of Anti-Corruption Bureau, Gujarat State, enlightened the audience with “Use of Forensic techniques in Criminal Justice System”, about how useful are modern forensic tools and techniques in crime detection, not just in Crime Division but also in any other office or department it can be useful and where on being alert and attentive about your surroundings, any layman can detect a criminal or in preventing of crimes.
In the end, Dr. A. V. Thomas, Director of AII, gave vote of thanks to all the prestige speakers and present participants of the workshop.
