A Virtual Event on “Celebrating the Women in Infrastructure Sector”
Lawgical Club under PGDM (Law) Programme, Adani Institute of Infrastructure Management, Ahmedabad has organized A Virtual Event on “Celebrating the Women in Infrastructure Sector” on 8th March 2021 on the occasion of the International Women’s Day. The objective of the event was to sensitize the younger generation that gender is not an obstacle to succeed in any field.
The event was graced by the presence of the speakers comprising eminent women personalities in Infrastructure Sector from India as well as abroad including Ms. Mary-Anne Bowcott, CEO Westcom Plumbing and Gas Ltd, Sooke, British Columbia, Canada, Dr. Manjula Subramaniam, IAS (Retd.) Director, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation, Gujarat Gas, Dr. Ananta Singh Raghuvanshi, Senior Executive Director, Experion Developers, Ms. Dinaz Madhukar, Chief Commercial Service Officer at Adani Airports.
Prof. (Dr.) P. Lakshmi, Head, PGDM (Law), Adani Institute of Infrastructure Management, welcomed the speakers with her welcome speech followed by the speech of Ms. Mary-Anne Bowcott. Ms. Mary in her speech expressed that “in a male dominated industry, it is challenging for women to succeed, but with lot persistent, perseverance women may succeed”. While stating very less percentice of presence of women in infrastructure sector, she said that our focus should be to bring more women participation in infrastructure sector. She also strongly believes that stereotype jobs for men are very open to women as well in present society. Dr. Manujal Subramaniam shared her experience in Jamnagar and working in various sectors of infrastructure particularly electricity sector. She felt that she was very much acceptable in her posting in rural areas and she was even successful in controlling mobs in law or order situation. In her inspiring note, she mentioned “every time I handled a difficult situation that made me more stronger”. The third speaker of the event, Dr. Ananta Singh Raghuvanshi acknowledged the presence of gender barriers, however, she said “gender definitely does not matter once you display your competence at work”. In her advice to women of younger generation, she said “deal with difficult situation with humour, dignity and courage”. He also said constant learning is the one the key of success. She also mentioned about key to work life balance citing her own examples. Ms. Dinaz Madhukar started her speech citing famous quote of Ayan Rand “The question is not who’s going to let me, it’s who is going to stop me”. She shared her life experience from her school to college life and then professional career and her keys to success. She strongly believes strong women don’t have attitude but they have standard. In her key advice to women, she said “when you strive to achieve something eventually it falls, you need to have that confidence”. Shae also said “stand for your belief, be independent and keep exploring”.
To further sensitize the objective of the event, Lawgical Club also organized a Slogan Writing Competition inviting slogans from the participants across the globe. Total 220 slogans were received. List of winners of the competition was disclosed in the event.
The event was attended by many practitioners, academicians, industry people and students from across the world. The event was ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Barkha Laddha, Secretary, Lawgical Club and PGDM (Law) Student at Adani Institute of Infrastructure Management.
